December 2007

I was reading an article from the latest MoneySense about Christmas trees. Many people might think they are saving environment while buying an artificial tree. The truth might be totally opposite. According to the article, “it takes between seven and 10 years for a Christmas tree to reach living room size. During that time, the tree absorbs carbon dioxide, releases oxygen, and provides a habitat for wildlife.”

If you still want to buy an artificial one, make sure it is not made of PVC which is one of the worst plastics for the environment and won’t break down for 200 years.

So this year, you might want to go green and kill a tree…

I just found out that Questrade charged me for receiving mailed confirmation slips (instead of email). The amount is not big, around $3. But I am still not comfortable with that. I guess it is my fault for not selecting the e-mail confirmation slip. But did they mention they would charge you if you choose to receive the confirmation slip by post on their website? Am I missing something?

Also, they said they will give the trade commissions back to you for referring people. I have referred two people in August and September. And I have not received the credit yet.

At the beginning of the referring process, I was not sure how they are going to track all those referrals since they don’t give you any confirmation number or anything. Just a plain e-mail saying you have referred this and that person. Is the referral being recorded in their system at all? How they are going to track it? I don’t understand. Maybe I should talk to the CSR in Questrade about that right now.
